The triumph marks one of the biggest achievements of Yakob’s career to date and sees AGF crowned champions of Denmark for the first time in decades. By winning the league, AGF have also qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers next season, giving the Aarhus-based side the opportunity to compete on Europe’s biggest club stage.

Yakob played a key role throughout the campaign, earning praise for his performances in midfield and establishing himself as one of the standout players in the Danish Superliga. The Gothenburg-born midfielder has become known for his technical quality, progressive passing, and distinctive “Baggiye” celebration, where he imitates the traditional Assyrian dance after scoring.
The title win caps off a remarkable period for the Iraqi international. Earlier this year, Yakob was also part of the Iraq national team squad that qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — Iraq’s first appearance at the tournament in 40 years. Alongside fellow Assyrian footballers including Aimar Sher, Frans Putros, Peter Gwargis and Rebin Sulaka, Yakob helped guide Iraq back onto the world stage.
Iraq’s qualification now sets the stage for some of the biggest matches in the nation’s modern football history. Iraq are scheduled to face France, Norway, and Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, meaning Yakob could potentially come up against global stars such as Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland on football’s biggest stage.

Yakob began his football journey at Assyrian club Assyriska BK in Gothenburg before progressing through the academies of IFK Göteborg and BK Häcken in Sweden's Allsvenskan. After spells in Sweden, he eventually joined AGF Aarhus, where he has now developed into one of the league’s premier midfielders.
With a Danish league title now added to his résumé, Kevin Yakob’s rise continues to gather momentum. From his beginnings at Assyriska BK to becoming a league champion in Denmark and a World Cup-qualified international with Iraq, the midfielder is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most successful Assyrian footballers of his generation.
