Zalge TV: the latest addition to Assyrian broadcasting

Earlier this year, a new Assyrian online TV station began airing programs. On its social media channels, Zalge TV is described as “an Assyrian media platform dedicated to political, cultural, and linguistic issues of the Assyrians, presenting current events and contemporary topics in a distinctive and impactful way.”

Little else is shared about the new broadcaster, which appears to not even have a homepage but instead relies entirely on its social media outreach. The programs are shared on several major platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok.

While there is no official information on who is behind Zalge TV, the appearance of certain personalities in its programs and its regional focus on the Gozarto Region (Northeast Syria) make it apparent that it is most likely connected to the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO). A majority of the persons appearing in its programs since its launch in January 2025, whether as hosts or guests, are well-known figures in the ADO, and some programs about the ADO, such as this one, are produced in collaboration with the ADO Youth, according to the program information. The ADO has not officially acknowledged the affiliation of Zalge TV and there is no mention of it on its official website.

With the establishment of Zalge TV, the ADO has followed in the footsteps of a number of other Assyrian political groups that have created TV platforms to reach more people and amplify their voice.

The ADO is the oldest Assyrian political group in Syria, established in 1957, and maintains its position as the main Assyrian group safeguarding the interests of the Assyrians of Syria. Since its founding, a number of its leaders have been imprisoned and tortured by Syrian regimes for defending the rights of Assyrians.

“Zalge” means “rays” in Assyrian, as in "rays of light".
