Athro Rhimo (Beloved homeland) is the title of the new film currently being recorded in locations in Germany and in the town of Midyat in the Turabdin Region.

The screenplay, produced and directed by Berlin-based Assyrian filmmaker Aziz Said, follows his earlier works–such as the genocide documentary Exodus and the 2007 film D’arbo d’Hubo (The Way of Love).

The narrative of Athro rhimo centers on Linora, an Assyrian singer born in Germany, whose world is turned upside down when her husband disappears and her son falls ill. An emotional journey ensues when she returns to Midyat–discovering love, heritage, and healing in the place she once called home

The team behind the project have set up a Gofundme campaign to raise funds for the completion of the film, which is expected to be released in 2026.

"This project has already overcome many hurdles. Filming locations, production teams, and actors are all set for shooting in summer 2025. Currently, we have €70,000 in starting funds. Our goal is to raise €150,000 to fully finance the production", the group writes on Gofundme. As of writing, the campaign on Gofundme has raised around 3500 Euros.
