Inspired by a true story, the novel “The Tribulations of Paulus the Assyrian” retraces the journey of one man and of his people. The book follows Paulus, born in 1889 in Khosrova, a village in northwestern Iran. In 1908 he leaves his homeland for the Caucasus, to Tiflis, and later emigrates to Argentina. At the outbreak of the Great War he travels to France. After the Armistice he returns to the Caucasus, where he learns that his parents perished in the Assyrian genocide of 1915. He then joins the Assyrian bataillon of the French Army of the Levant and settles with his family in the Assyrian Gozarto region in modern day Syria.
