Nineveh’s Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage has launched an initiative to reintroduce the chamomile flower to Mosul after several seasons of absence.

The aim of the initiative is to preserve both the heritage and the environmental landscape of the city’s archaeological sites, reports Shafaq News.

Ruwaid Al-Layla, the department’s director, told Shafaq News that the project focuses on protecting areas around heritage sites, particularly spots that have in recent years become informal waste dumps. “Planting the flower helps restore the value of these areas, enhances their environmental and aesthetic appeal, and raises public awareness about the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage,” he said.
