The Gothenburg-born midfielder has been instrumental in AGF’s strong start to the season, with the club currently sitting at the top of the Danish Superliga table. Among midfielders in the league this season, he leads in touches in the opposition half, progressive runs, and progressive passes, a testament to his ability to drive play forward and dictate tempo from central areas.

Yakob’s football journey began at Assyriska BK, the Assyrian club in Gothenburg, where he developed through the youth ranks. He later joined the academy of IFK Göteborg before a potential move to Sunderland AFC in England did not materialise. Yakob subsequently continued his development at BK Häcken, making senior appearances before returning to IFK Göteborg. His performances in Sweden‘s Allsvenskan eventually led to his transfer to AGF Aarhus, where he has continued to grow as a central midfielder.
On the international stage, Yakob initially represented Sweden at youth level, making nine appearances and scoring once for the Sweden U19 side, including matches in the 2018 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers. In early 2023, he committed his international future to Iraq and made his senior debut against the Colombia national football team. However, the milestone was cut short when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 23rd minute, sidelining him during a critical period of his career.

Since joining AGF, Yakob has made 37 appearances and scored four goals, establishing himself as a dynamic presence in midfield. He is also known among Assyrian fans for his distinctive “Bagiye” celebration, where he imitates the traditional Assyrian group dance after scoring, a proud and visible expression of his heritage on the European stage.
