Behind the splendid new hotel in the heart of Midyat is Semir Sumer, an Assyrian from the large and increasingly affluent Assyrian European diaspora. After two years of construction, the hotel is now open for business.

In an interview, he speaks of his happiness to contribute to the Assyrian presence in the Assyrian homeland and his desire to welcome many Assyrian guests to the hotel. The young receptionist, a Yazidi lady, extends her invitation in Assyrian: "Bsheino l'Mydiat u Turabdin."

While located in the center of Midyat, the hotel remains close to the old town, with many Assyrian churches visible from its rooftop. The hotel offers all common amenities, including wifi and air-conditioning in every room.

Assyria Hotel is one of the latest business endeavors by Assyrians in Tur Abdin, following years of similar investments in the hospitality sector, including wineries, cafés, restaurants, and hotels.
