Renowned assyriologists to speak at Assyrian Australian event
The Assyrian Australian Association promises "Unforgettable lectures on the Epic of Gilgamesh and other ancient Mesopotamian writings" at its Gilgamesh festival.

Stephany Dally and Simo Parpola, both internationally recognized scholars of ancient Assyrian and Mesopotamian civilization, will speak at the Gilgamesh Festival organized by the Assyrian Australian Association on 1 November. The organizers promise “unforgettable lectures on the Epic of Gilgamesh and other ancient Mesopotamian writings.”
Stephany Dally, a British scholar, is well known for her argument that the true location of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon was in fact in Nineveh. Among her most influential works is The Legacy of Mesopotamia, a groundbreaking book that demonstrates how Mesopotamian and Assyrian concepts, ideals, rituals, and myths were adopted and transformed by other cultures across the world.
The Finnish scholar Simo Parpola, meanwhile, has stood out as one of the few assyriologists to openly acknowledge the continuity of Assyrian identity throughout history. He has actively engaged with Assyrian organizations through lectures and interviews, sharing his expertise and insights.
