National German radio puts spotlight on local self-governance in Assyria
In a nine minute radio reportage in Deutchlandfunk the issue of Assyrian self governance is discussed.

Deutschlandfunk (DLF), one of Germany’s three national public radio networks operated by Deutschlandradio, is recognized as a major player in terms of reach and influence.
On July 22, DLF aired a nine-minute segment in its religion magazine Tag für Tag addressing the urgent need for self-governance for Assyrians in Assyria to safeguard their language, culture, and identity. The reportage, titled "Assyrische Christen – Traum vom selbstverwaltetem Gebiet" (Assyrian Christians – Dream of a Self-Administered Region), provided a brief historical overview of the challenges faced by the Assyrian people, including the Seyfo genocide. It also covered the ongoing efforts to establish an Assyrian administration in the Nineveh Plain Region of northern Iraq.
Among those interviewed was Charlie Kanoun, a well-known German-Assyrian activist residing in Saarland, southwestern Germany.
“It’s necessary so that we as a nation can live together in one place, preserve our language and culture, and secure our way of life,” Kanoun said during the program.
