The Assyrian Aid Society – Iraq has unveiled four new initiatives under its small-loan program. These projects aim to empower families in rural areas by helping them rely on their own resources rather than on external aid, according to AAS-I.

The newly launched initiatives include the establishment of a school supplies office in the village of Berozawa, a livestock-raising project (cattle and sheep) in the village of Karamles, establishing a traditional clothing weaving project in the village of Bersifi, near Zakho, to strengthen national identity and preserve cultural heritage and the purchase of a tractor in the village of Armota to support agricultural livelihoods.

The four projects were made possible through direct support from the Assyrian Aid Society – America, complemented by reinvested proceeds from previous projects, reports AAI-I.

Since launching its livelihoods initiative, the AAS-IS has financed a total of 23 small-scale projects that it says has provided income and financial support for dozens of families and created an ongoing, internally sustained funding mechanism.
